Lyra Barrera, Psy.D.

I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist (LCP) and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT). I graduated with a BA in Psychology from Harvard University, earned a Masters degree in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University, and a Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) degree from the California School of Professional Psychology in Los Angeles. My areas of emphasis included Women's Studies; Marriage, Child, and Family Therapy; and Multicultural Community Clinical Psychology.

I provide training and supervision in both agency and private-practice settings, and I am currently on the faculty of the Southern California Counseling Center. I have been working with individuals and couples at Larchmont Associates since 1998.

We are all trying to navigate in many different contexts every day – professional, interpersonal, spiritual (to name a few) – and problems tend to arise when our values and beliefs are not seen or supported in the contexts we are living in. To make matters worse, those contexts can also be promoting taken-for-granted ideas about how we should be living our lives. In my work, we are actively engaged in finding ways to name and contend with problems in context. I work collaboratively with people to detail their hopes for a life that is focused in the ways they would like, honor the histories that inform their current experiences and relationships, and help find ways to embody emotions in ways that can be felt, seen, and understood by others.
